Frequently Asked Questions

Why pay for a professional translation?

A translator is a qualified language professional and an expert writer. Their experience, professional accreditation and academic qualifications will ensure that your translation is approached in the best possible way and that it will always be kept confidential!

A professional translator will intensively research terminology and the subject matter to provide you with a holistic, customer-orientated translation. As language is infused with context and culture, you simply can’t get this service when using machine translation.

Does it matter where I am based?

Thanks to the internet, I can offer translations to clients all over the world. It doesn’t matter where you live, because you can receive your completed text by email.

How long will the translation take?

I can translate around 2,000 words per day, on average. The exact timescale will depend on each job’s unique requirements, so please contact me for a detailed estimate.

How much will it cost?

The prices I offer are competitive and based on the format, size, urgency and complexity of your requirements. My prices are usually project-based, which means that once I know exactly what you need, I’ll be able to give you a price. Just get in touch to discuss your project specifications. Surcharges may be applied for weekend and out-of-hours work.

How does the process look?

  • I’ll ask for your project specifications (who the translation is for, purpose, deadline, subject matter, format and volume), to make sure I’m the right person for the job. If I’m not, I’ll point you in the right direction and recommend a trusted colleague.

  • Once I know what needs to be done, I’ll estimate the cost and tell you what I’m going to charge for the translation.

  • Then I’ll research the subject matter and prepare the terminology.

  • I may then come back to you with questions before I begin the translation. I like to communicate with my clients throughout the translation process, as in my experience this always produces the best results.

  • I deliver the translation – on time and on budget.

What about the confidentiality?

Your data and documents are kept safe and confidential throughout the entire translation process, and will never be disclosed to third parties. Paper documents are stored in a locked cabinet, while digital data is stored on a password-protected computer.

Client confidentiality is one of the most important points in my professional code of conduct.
